You’re Not The Boss Of Me

City Kids Parent Take-Home

Numbers 16

Big truth: God judges those who reject His plan and His chosen leaders.
Christ connection: Jesus was turned against to rescue those who had turned against God (like us!)
Faith Response: Children who follow leaders that follow Christ.

Memory verse: Colossians 1:13-14 (NIV)
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Dinner-table questions
  1. What was the problem with Korah, Dathan, and Abiram’s hearts? How are we like that too?
They rejected Moses, Aaron, and most of all, God. They put God down and brought themselves up, thinking they knew better.
  2. What do we learn about God from the story?
God is just, He judged those who rejected Him. God is merciful, He rescued the people by stopping the plague.
  3. What did Aaron do? How does that point to Jesus?
Aaron risked his life and stood between the living and the dead, to make right (‘atone’) for the people’s sin.
Jesus is the best Saviour and high priest. He gave up his life and was judged in our place on the cross, so that we could be with God forever.
Family activity: follow the leader

Play follow the leader around the garden or kitchen table; the sillier the actions, the better!

Korah and co. weren’t good leaders – they turned against God and led the people against God. But what makes a good leader? Why does God give us leaders at all? What sort of leaders might you be tempted to follow in the world? What godly leaders can we follow instead in our church and in our lives?
