City Kids Parent Take-Home
Daniel 5
Big truth: God is so powerful that He controls kings and kingdoms.
Christ connection: Jesus is the holy and humble king who reigns forever.
Faith Response: Children who want to show Jesus instead of showing off.
Memory verse: Isaiah 46:9-10 NIV song
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me. …
I say, ‘My plan will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’
Dinner-table questions
- Why message did God give to king Belshazzar? Why?
The message said that Belshazzar’s days were numbered, he was judged, and he would lose his kingdom. Belshazzar was proud and had acted against God. He used the holy vessels stolen from God’s temple to make toasts to idols. - How is Jesus a different sort of king to Belshazzar?
Jesus is a holy and humble king. We deserve judgement too, but everyone trusting him is part of his forever kingdom. - What sort of things can we want to show off? What’s better than showing ourselves off?
Discuss! Showing Jesus and boasting about Him is what we were created for.
Family Activity: writing on the wall
Turn off the lights. Use a flashlight to trace a letter or a word on the wall. Can anyone guess what you wrote?
Remind the children that God sent bad news to proud Belshazzar, but He sent good news through King Jesus!
