City Kids Parent Take-Home
Last week we finally started New Testament in the Biggest Story: Jesus, the long-awaited Snake Crusher and the true Prophet, Preist and King had arrived on earth. This week we see the Wise Men recognise Jesus as the true King.
Matthew 2
Big truth: Jesus is the King of all nations.
Christ connection: Jesus is the King of kings yet came to seek and save the lost
Faith Response: Children who worship their King and Saviour.
Memory verse: Matthew 1:21 song
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
Dinner-table questions
- Who came to worship Jesus as King? Who should come to worship Him?
The Wise Men traveled far to come worship Jesus. We should all worship Him - What did Herod try to do? Why wasn’t he able to do it?
Herod tried to kill Jesus because he was threatened. God is in control and spoke to the Wise Men. - Jesus was killed at the end of the gospel. Does this mean Herod (and others like him) succeeded in the end?
Not at all! Jesus, as the King of all nations, laid down His life and was raised to reign forever.
Family Activity: Bright hands
Dim the lights in the room. Have a parent stand in as high a position as possible and using a bright torch shine a circle of light on the floor. Tell your kids they must follow the light trying to keep one hand always lit. As you move the light the children need to run to re-illuminate their hand!
The Wise Men followed the light of the star to worship the true King, Jesus.
