Isaiah 6
Big truth: God is holy, and only God can make us holy.
Christ connection: Jesus is the sacrifice. He took away our guilt and gave us his holy record.

Dinner-table questions
- What was Isaiah’s vision of God? What do these things tell us about God?
God is holy, glorious, majestic king of all. - Why did Isaiah say “Woe is me!”?
Isaiah realised that he was NOT holy. He was lost and unclean – a sinner. - In Isaiah’s vision, how was Isaiah’s guilt taken away? What does this mean?
A seraph took a burning coal from the altar and touched Isaiah’s mouth. It shows that only God can take away guilt and make sinners holy. It shows that a sacrifice is needed to cover our sin. - After this, Isaiah was excited to be sent by God, even though no-one would listen. Do you remember anything Isaiah promised about Jesus (in the rest of the book)?
Isaiah said that a miracle baby would be born and called “Immanuel” (ch7). He said a king from David’s family would rule forever (ch 9). He said a suffering servant would bear sin and live again (ch 53).
Family Activity: tong relay
You will need: 2 sets of kitchen tongs, 2 empty bowls, and a bowl of marshmallows/potatoes.
Split into 2 teams, lining up behind the bowl of “charcoal”. Set the 2 empty bowls on the other side of the room. When the game begins, the players must pick up a marshmallow/potato with he tongs and carry it to the bowl on the other side. If the item is dropped, the player must stop and pick it up with the tongs. After the player drops it in the bowl, he/she returns to his team, and the next person continues. When the first bowl is empty, the team who has collected the most items wins.
Remind the children that when Isaiah realised he was terribly unclean, God sent the angel with the burning coal to declare that his sins were taken care of.
