Dinner-table questions
- In what ways was Solomon wise? What good things happened for the people when Solomon ruled with wisdom?
Solomon loved God; he walked in God’s way and built a temple for God’s people to worship. - In what ways was Solomon unwise? What happened as a result of Solomon’s foolishness?
Solomon married more than one wife (700!) who did not know the true God, and he worshipped their idols. The kingdom was split apart because Solomon was unfaithful. - How is Jesus greater than Solomon? What sort of temple did Jesus build? What sort of kingdom does Jesus rule over?
Jesus saved people to be God’s temple – where God lives! Jesus rules over his kingdom forever, so all who trust Him will never be left out or lost from God!
Family activity: chairs and relationships
You need two people (maybe Mum and Dad!). One person stands on a chair, and the other stands on the ground beside them. They should hold hands. First, the person on the chair should try to pull their partner up to them – they probably can’t! Then, the person on the ground should try to pull their partner towards them – but be careful! Wasn’t it easier to pull someone down than to try pull someone up?
Talk to your children about the importance of having Christian friends, and if they marry in the future, choosing a spouse who loves and follows Jesus. Of course, friendships with unbelievers are good and important, but our closest relationships will always influence us, either towards or away from God.
Pray together for your children’s friendships – for them to shine for Christ amongst those who don’t yet know him, and for them to be encouraged by their brothers and sisters in God’s family.
