Ezekiel 37
Big truth: God has the power to raise the dead to life.
Christ connection: We were dead in sin, but raised to real, new, forever life in Jesus.
Faith Response: Children who rejoice in the new life they have in Jesus.
Memory verse: Jeremiah 31:33-34
I will be their God, and they shall be my people…
For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Dinner-table questions
- What happened in Ezekiel’s strange dream? What did it mean? What did God promise in Ezekiel 36:25-28?
Ezekiel saw a valley full of bones, which were raised to life. It was a message to Israel in exile: God would keep his promises – He would save from sin and give new hearts and new life by His Spirit. - Someone’s body can be breathing, but without God, what’s wrong?
They are dead in sin. - How is life in Jesus different? What is it like?
When someone trusts Jesus, they’re raised to real, new, forever life in Him.
Family Activity: Bone Man
This game is played like “hangman” (without the gallows!). You will need a piece of paper and a pen.
Appoint a leader to pick a word from today’s story (e.g., alive, Spirit, heart, Ezekiel, valley, breath). Don’t tell anyone, but draw dashes for each letter in the word. The players are to guess the letters until the word can be identified. If a player guesses a letter correctly, the leader fills in the blank. If a player guesses incorrectly, the leader adds a “bone” or limb to the skeleton man. Can the players guess the secret word before the skeleton man is complete?
Remind the children that in Jesus, there is real, new, forever life!
