Dinner-table questions
- After Solomon died, was his son Rehoboam a good king? What did he do? What happened?
Rehoboam was foolish and proud. He planned to be a harsh and cruel king, so the kingdom divided into two. Rehoboam ruled over “Judah” (2 tribes) and Jeroboam ruled over Israel (10 tribes). - Was the other king, Jeroboam, any better than Solomon and Rehoboam? What did Jeroboam do?
Jeroboam was foolish and proud too. He created 2 golden calves, different temples, and other priests, which all went against God’s good law. - The two bad kings cracked God’s kingdom and led the people away from God. Why is Jesus the best king?
Jesus brings God’s people back to God and together into one family. Sin brings slavery and separation, but Jesus brings freedom and peace.
Family activity: sorry circle
Sit in a circle to play this speaking game. The aim is to find as many ways to say “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you” as possible. Each phrase can only be used once!
The first person starts by turning to the person on their right and saying “I’m sorry”. Person 2 replies, “I forgive you,” and then turns to the person on their right to say “I apologise’. Person 3 replies “I accept your apology”, and then turns to the next person to say, “I am sad that I hurt you”.
As the game continues, your phrases will get increasingly creative and silly. Keep going until you get stuck!
Because Jesus forgave and made us right, we can forgive others. Since Jesus has brought God’s people together, there should be friendship and not fighting in God’s family. How can God’s children seek peace in God’s family? What does it mean to be quick to repent and forgive?
