Mr. Clean

City Kids Parent Take-Home

We’re back in the gospels after a bit of a break. The word gospel means “good news”. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John each tell us the good news about Jesus; the long-awaited Prophet, Priest and King who is also the snake crusher we’ve been longing for since the garden!

Mark 1

Big truth: Our sins make us dirty; Christ can make us clean.
Christ connection: Jesus takes our sin on Himself and gives us His righteousness
Faith Response: Children who come to Jesus to make them clean.

Memory verse: Ezekiel 37:23b
I will … cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Dinner-table questions
  1. What does the word gospel mean? Why is it good?
Gospel means “good news”. It’s good because it tells us that Jesus came to live a perfect life among us, to die to make us clean (take away our sin) and rose again defeating sin and death.
  2. Why was leprosy such a bad disease?
It was painful, dangerous and meant people stayed away from you.
  3. Who didn’t stay away from the leper but touched Him instead?
Jesus reached out to touch the leper.
  4. Who else is unclean and needs Jesus to make them clean?
We all need Jesus to make us clean.
Family Activity: No touching!

Instruct everyone that they are not allowed to touch anyone else for the next… 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes (you decide). Add in that they can’t scratch their nose or rub their eye or anything if you like. After a while you can give them a big hug.

Being unclean means we can’t be near Jesus. How wonderful that He has come near to us, touching us and making us clean!
