Dinner-table questions
  1. What were the amazing promises God made to Abraham? How did God help Abraham when Abraham doubted these promises?
God made a covenant to show Abraham that He would keep His Word, no matter what. God promised to give Abraham a family and land, and to be their God forever!
  2. Abraham was sinful. Everyone is sinful. So how was Abraham counted righteous in God’s eyes? How could you or me be righteous before God?
Through faith, we receive Jesus’ righteousness. Christ’s perfect record is swapped over to us.
  3. When people make you feel like you’re not good enough for their group or team, how would it help to know that you’re covered in Jesus’ perfect record?
Knowing that God smiles on me helps me when I am afraid of others frowning at me.
Family Discipleship activity: sand-counting or stargazing!

Go outside on a cloudless night. (Hats and hot chocolate might help!) Try to count the stars. Or, go to the beach or play in a sandbox. Can you count the grains of sand?
Talk about how God promised Abraham a family as many as the stars in the sky and grains of sand on the beach. Everyone who trusts in Jesus is part of that great big family too – the worldwide church!
You could also talk about how not everybody is in God’s family. How can you share the good news of Jesus with friends? Pray for your friends who don’t trust in Jesus yet.
