Dinner-table questions
- What was the bad news that Jeremiah brought to the people? Did they listen? How did they treat Jeremiah?
Jeremiah warned that because the people had rejected God, they would be exiled from the promised land to Babylon. - As well as bad news, what hope for the future did Jeremiah share? See Jeremiah 31:33-34.
God promised to bring the people back home after the exile. He also promised a new covenant: to forget their sin, transform their hearts, and live with them forever. God’s promises come true in Jesus! - What ways do people try to impress others, more than pleasing God?
Discuss! Remind children that we belong to God, forgiven and new, no matter what. Other people can’t love us like that.
Family Activity: scatter & gather
You will need: a packet of wrapped sweets, or any set of househouse items, like lego bricks or clothes pegs.
Set up: scatter the sweets or items over a room or multiple rooms in your house.
Split into teams and race to gather up the most.
The people of Judah were scattered away from their home for 70 years. But God promised to bring them back!
