God’s Tricky, Hairy, Blessed People

City Kids Parent Take-Home

Genesis 25 + 27

Big truth: God blesses His people even when they keep getting things wrong
Christ connection: Jesus gives us the blessing of being God’s greatly-loved children.
Response: Children who don’t play favourites but show kindness to others as God has shown to them.

Memory verse: Ephesians 2:8-9 song
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Dinner-table questions
  1. Why was it shocking for God to bless Jacob and choose him to be part of the promised family leading to Jesus?
Jacob was selfish and sneaky. He was also the younger brother. Jacob kept getting things wrong, but God blessed him because God is gracious.
  2. How does God treat us? Why? How does that make you feel?
God favours us and adopts us as His greatly-loved children, not because we’re good but because He is good. Thankful, secure, accepted, confident.
  3. How can you show God’s free kindness to someone in your school/club who is unliked, an outsider, or different?
    Discuss!
