Faith Response: Children who remember they are loved and looked after by God, even when everything seems wrong and unfair.
Memory verse: Job 1:21b song
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.
Dinner-table questions
- Why were Job’s friends not great friends when he was suffering? What did they say that wasn’t true?
Job’s friends were not good at comforting Job, they accused him instead. They said bad things happened to Job because he did bad things. - We can’t understand when bad things happen, but what can we remember about God – Father, Son, Spirit?
God the Father is sovereign over everything. Jesus understands our pain, because he suffered too. The Spirit comforts us and helps us to pray.
Family Activity: words of comfort
Do you know anyone in your church family who is going through a hard time? Make a card and write a note to encourage them. Why not include the memory verse or another Scripture?
