A Marriage Made in Heaven

City Kids Parent Take-Home

Hosea 1-3

Big truth: God’s love and mercy is shown to sinners, who don’t deserve it.
Christ connection: Jesus shows God’s never-ending love. He won His people back on the cross.
Faith Response: Children who are faithful and forgiving friends, in a world of unfriending and cancelling.

Memory verse: Isaiah 46:9-10 NIV song
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me. …
I say, ‘My plan will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’

Dinner-table questions
  1. Why did Hosea marry Gomer? What did she do to Hosea? What happened to her? What did Hosea do next?
God told Hosea to marry Gomer. She broke her marriage promises and had children with another man. Gomer ended up in trouble, but Hosea paid to set up free and brought her back home.
  2. What was Hosea and Gomer’s marriage a picture of?
Israel had been unfaithful to God, but God would keep His promises.
  3. Why is Jesus sometimes called a ‘bridegroom’ in the Bible? Who is the bride?
Jesus’ bride is the church. We don’t deserve his mercy, but he loves us and bought us back on the cross.
Family Activity: love stories

Can you share a love story with your children? Maybe the story of how you met, or the story of grandparents or other relatives. Can you show any wedding photos or videos?

Or, watch a ‘love story’, like a Disney movie. How is that story different from the story of Hosea and Gomer? Were there any similarities? How is the story different or similar to the story of Jesus and his bride?
