Memory verse: Job 1:21b song
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.

Dinner-table questions
  1. When bad things happened, what did Job do? Why? (See Job 1:20-21)
    Job trusted and praised God. He knew God was in charge and God was still good.
  2. Job didn’t deserve to suffer, and he kept going through suffering. Who does that remind you of?
    Jesus! Jesus was perfectly innocent, and stayed faithful through the worst suffering. Jesus chose to suffer for us.
  3. When we lose something good, what can we do with our sadness and complaints?
    We can cry out to God, bringing our sadness and complaints to Him.
Family Activity: when we can’t see

Have someone wear a blindfold. Have another person give directions for them to walk to another place, maybe to pick something up, ring a bell or bang a pot. The blindfolded person needs to trust their guide.

Remind your children that Job trusted and praised God even when he couldn’t understand what was happening to him. We can trust God in sad times too.
