Memory verse: Proverbs 30:5 song
Every word of God proves true;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Dinner-table questions
  1. What happened to Joshua the high priest in Zechariah’s vision? What did it show about people? What did it show about God?
    Joshua was standing before God in filthy clothes. Satan was accusing him. But God said to remove Joshua’s filthy clothes and put clean garments on him. The vision showed that we are terribly sinful, but God can make us perfectly clean.
  2. Like the dirty clothes, Jesus takes away our sin and guilt. But what else does he do and give? Why is that good news?
    Like the clean clothes, Jesus gives us his perfection. That means we can be with God; we are free and don’t have to earn anything.
  3. We wear a lot of outfits through our lives – school uniforms, sports kits, work clothes, party and wedding outfits. It’s easy to think what we do or how we look is the most important thing about us, but what’s the best answer to “Who am I?”. Why?
    Discuss! The best thing is belonging to Jesus. That’s an identity that we don’t have to earn, and can never change or be lost.
Family Activity: dress up race

You will need: a selection of dad or mum’s clothes.

Split into two teams, and each nominate a Joshua. Set a timer for 3 minutes, or play the song Justified. Race to put as many clothes on Joshua as possible. After, race to see which team is the fastest at removing Joshua’s layers of clothing.

Remind the children that the best outfit change is being covered by Jesus!
