Life and the First Garden

City Kids Parent Take-Home

This is the first of our lessons over Easter. We’ll be looking at The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross for the next six weeks. Starting in Genesis and ending in Revelation we’ll take a trip through the whole Bible.

Genesis 2-3

Big truth: It was wonderful to live in God’s garden, and it was wonderful to live with him. God’s design for humanity is to enjoy living in his presence.
Christ connection: God always planned to be with us – Jesus is God with us!
Faith Response: Children who know and enjoy God, praising him for his creation.

Memory verse: Psalm 8:1 song
O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.

Over the next six weeks we’ll also be practicing the six memory verses we’ve learned since September. At the end of that there’ll be a chance to win a prize for reciting them all!

Dinner-table questions
  1. Who and what made life in the garden so amazing?
  2. What did you think sounded most exciting about the garden?
  3. How can we be with God now?
Family Activity: Naming game

Select a number of natural-world categories (birds or birds of prey, animals or farmyard animals or jungle life, flowers or types of tree, birds of prey, reptiles, creatures with four legs, and so on). In one minute, name as many examples for that category as possible. If you want to make it harder you could set a number they have to name, give everyone less time, or say they must all begin with a certain letter.
When you’ve played a few times turn the names you come up with into prayers of praise and thanks.
